DAY 17: “Gratitude = Benefits”

“This Thanksgiving let’s remember that Gratitude + Praise + Thanks = Benefits!”

November is usually the month when we review our health insurance plan to see what is best for us for the coming year. We lay everything out, assess our current needs, and decide what benefits us most. A benefit is an advantage or profit gained from something. It refers to anything that improves the state of a person or group. We all want the advantage — the best benefits — but, we just don’t want to have to pay for them, right?  What if I told you that you could have the best benefits, and it wouldn’t cost you anything? At least not in the natural world.

The word gratitude comes from the Latin word gratia, which means grace (the free and unmerited favor of God). Gratitude is thankful appreciation for what we have received, either tangible or intangible. In the natural, gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, savor great experiences, improve health, deal with conflict, and build strong relationships. Those are all great benefits, but what about the supernatural? What does God say about benefits?

In Psalm 103:1-5 God says that there are six benefits for us if we will gratefully praise Him. We know that praise connects us with God; we were all created to praise Him. God commands us to do so when He says, “Praise the Lord O my soul!”  It’s not optional. Why? Because He knows that there are benefits attached to praise and He wants us to have them all!  Do we really know what benefits praise provides?

Psalm 103:1-5. AMP says:

“Bless (AFFECTIONATELY, gratefully praise the Lord, O my soul; and all that is (deepest) within me, bless His holy name! Bless (affectionately, gratefully praise) the Lord , O my soul and forget not (one of ) all His benefits—Who forgives (every one of) all your iniquities, Who heals (each one of) all your diseases, Who redeems your life from the pit and corruption, Who beautifies, dignifies, and crowns you with loving-kindness and tender mercy; Who satisfies your mouth (your necessity and desire at your personal age and situation) with good so that your youth, renewed, is like the eagle’s (strong, overcoming, soaring}!”

Now those are some benefits!

Notice, the first thing God mentions before He gets into the benefits is we are to Praise! The NIV says “Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.” Your soul is comprised of your mind, will, and emotions. We connect with God spirit-to-spirit, but God also wants us to praise him from a deeper place using our mind, will, and emotions.  Be expressive. Be loud. Speak, sing, praise, dance, sing, and shout! Affectionately and gratefully praise Him from the deepest place in your soul!

He says again in verse 2 “Praise the Lord, O my soul,” but he adds: “forget not all his benefits.” God is telling you He has benefits for you if you will praise Him with your whole heart and soul!

Here are the benefits!

Benefit 1: He forgives all my sins

The AMP says every of your sins will be forgiven. Wow, all my sins? Every one? Yes, God is more concerned about our future than our past. (Psalm 103: 12) As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our sins from us… Now, that’s a benefit!

Benefit 2: He heals all my diseases

God’s will is that we prosper and be in health. John 3: 2 says: “Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.” Healing starts where the will of God is known. He says above all things that is His desire for us .

Benefit 3: He redeems my life from the pit.

The AMP says “the pit and corruption.” Thank you Lord, that as your child my life is redeemed from the pit of hell and corruption here on earth and I get to spend eternity with You.

Benefit 4: He crowns me with love and compassion.

I love what the AMP says: “Who beautifies, dignifies, and crowns me with loving-kindness and tender mercy.” Who doesn’t want to be beautified, dignified, and crowned! We can all use a little loving-kindness and mercy during the holidays!

Benefit 5: He satisfies my desires with good things

This is soooooo good too!  The AMP says: “Who satisfies my mouth (my necessity and desire at my personal age and situation) with good things.” Wow, God is so personal!  He has a unique plan for each one of us wherever we are in life and whatever the situation and He wants to fill it with good things!

Benefit 6: So that my youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Woohoo!  Renewed youth! Renewed energy! I want to soar until I’m 120! I’ll take that and then some, please! I’d say those are some benefits!

The benefits of God are unmatched. We don’t have to renew or review them because they are God’s truth! You sign up by giving your heart to Jesus and making Him Lord of your life. Maybe if you are reading this you want to rededicate your life to him this Thanksgiving. Well, God has been waiting for you! This can be the best Thanksgiving ever! So, get your praise on! Have an attitude of Gratefulness and Thankfulness and watch God work in your life. His desire is that you walk in the fulness of all the benefits. You will be changed forever! This Thanksgiving let’s remember that Gratitude+Praise+Thanks=Benefits!

What are you waiting for? If you haven’t signed up for yours today, you can start by saying this prayer with me.

“Father, I come before You today and gratefully praise You with my whole heart! I thank you for your grace, your free and unmerited favor upon my life. I believe that as I praise you, I will see the benefits you speak of in Psalm 103. Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God, and that you died on a cross for me so I could have life and life to the full!  I receive that life now. In Jesus Name. Amen.”

Shalom,

Mama Swan
