Day 7: Lamp and Light

“I have not turned aside from Your ordinances, For You Yourself have taught me. How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth! From Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way. Nun. Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. I have sworn and I will confirm it, That I will keep Your righteous ordinances.”

-Psalm 119:102-106

Do you want to hear something funny? You promise not to make fun of me?

A few years back, I was studying the scripture above and God sent me into a vision of none other than… The Wizard of Oz.

Now admittedly, I’ve never even seen the entirety of this movie, so I was very surprised when God used this to speak to me about this verse. But I digress.

In the vision, God said:

God: Megan, what does a lamp do?

Me: *slight eye roll,* It lights things up.

God: How much?

Me: Depends on the lamp.

God: Okay, how much can one lamp illuminate if it’s outside?

Me: I guess, not a lot.

God: Now how about a light?

Me: Well, generally speaking, light can illuminate anything. Everything.

God: Exactly. Now read the verse again.

Me: Okay. *Reads Verse*

Then BAM! It hit me.

Like a flood of revelation, God started to show me the part I had to play in this. And how incredibly simple it was.

God: “You see, My Word is a lamp unto your feet, because just like the yellow brick road in The Wizard of Oz… Dorothy wasn’t guaranteed Oz unless she kept walking. The lamp illuminates enough light to show you the next step you take, but it doesn’t show you the whole road. It requires active participation upon the recipient because I gave you free will. Now let’s move on to the light.”

Me: *stunned eyeball emoji* Okay!

God: “Next, the light. I’m a light unto the path because I’ll never leave you in darkness. I’ll light the whole path so you can see beyond the current step, but you need the daily bread of the Word as a lamp, too, to illuminate the specifics of the steps. The light and the lamp together provide you with everything you need to keep taking steps in alignment with My Word to get you walking in all I have for you.”

Me: Wow. *Selah*

So why do I share this? Because…I’m so grateful that God made things simple.

Listen to His ordinances, and gain understanding. Listen to His ordinances, and God will teach us Himself! Taste the sweetness of His voice (the Word has a voice, as we discussed yesterday) like honey to our mouths.

I don’t know about you, but being instructed by the Creator of the Universe, the All-Knowing God is a pretty sweet deal to me. I think I’ll take it!

But how often do we complicate things when it comes to God?

I know I do! (See back on day three for how to quiet down a busy mind!)

But here, God lays it all out. The whole plan. Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. And encourages us each step with the illumination of His word, as it continues to encourage us that no matter our educational level, everyone can receive the revelation knowledge of His Word!  “The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.” Psalms 119:130 NKJV

Don’t let where you come from, how smart you are in the natural, or what people have negatively spoken over you determine how you think you can hear from God. God is no respecter of persons. But more on that tomorrow!

Talk then!
