Week 7 • Day 2 • Ponder

“But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3: 12-14 (ESV)

I’m a big fan of self-pity. I’m not sure the people around me share my enthusiasm, but it’s a great way to express my displeasure without having to do anything about it.

Few of us like to be pruned or have to endure trials and tribulations. And as our modern world experiences less true hardship, we lose our muscle for perseverance … and inevitably suffer more.

But Philippians 3:13-14 reminds us to not look back. To forget what lies behind, what’s happened before. No more self-pity – it’s time to strain towards what God has for us in the future.

Do you have a foot stuck in the sludge of the past? Maybe it’s time to get it out. It’s okay if you lose your shoe. Just keep going.

A little something to think about it.
