“Oh you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
Matthew 14:31 (NASB)

Peter had been with Jesus, in real life. He saw Jesus perform miracles, with his own eyes. He believed Jesus was precisely who he said he was.

And yet, all it took was one storm, and Peter’s mind went wild. Fear overcame his body. And he sunk right down into the water—until Jesus reached out his hand, pulled him up and said, “Oh you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

My point is, don’t feel bad about yourself the next time you panic.

But let’s not make it our default, okay?

Whenever I read this verse, I get choked up. I feel Jesus speaking this right to me.

How many times have I feared, suffered and cried – only for God to rescue me and ask, “Oh you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

An undisciplined mind is allowed to run loose with fear filled, faith less thoughts. We suffer, just like Peter, letting ourselves sink with every storm.

And each time, when God rescues us, he asks, “Why did you doubt?”

And when he asks, what will be your answer?

Today, let’s commit to not allowing our faith to waiver, no matter what storm (or sprinkle) heads our way. Let’s commit to trusting God. And as our boat rocks, let’s take Jesus’s cue and take a rest.
Peace. Joy. Anyway.

If we truly believe God is who he says he is, there is no reason to be afraid. No reason to let our mind run wild. Practice your faith and see what miracle comes your way.
